Aston University's School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biosciences is seeking a Research Assistant to support an externally funded project within the John Reynolds research group. You'll contribute to investigations into ataxia telangiectasia-like disorder (ATLD), a rare inherited neurological condition caused by mutations in the MRE11 protein, which is essential for DNA repair. The project aims to understand why neurons are particularly vulnerable when DNA repair mechanisms fail.
What you’ll do
- Assist with laboratory work and experiments investigating DNA damage and repair pathways in neuronal cells
- Support data collection and sample preparation for the ATLD research project
- Contribute to analysis and documentation of research findings
- Help maintain accurate records and manage research materials
- Liaise with other team members within the John Reynolds research group
Eligibility
- Background in life sciences, biomedical sciences, or related discipline
- Interest in molecular biology and DNA repair mechanisms
- Ability to work methodically and maintain detailed laboratory records
- Willingness to learn new research techniques and protocols
- Good communication and teamwork skills
