The University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering seeks a Research Assistant to support advanced manufacturing and materials research. You'll conduct experimental work in laser powder bed fusion, mechanical testing, and materials analysis, while helping maintain and develop laboratory standards and practices.
What you’ll do
- Prepare, set up and run experiments in laser powder bed fusion, mechanical testing and microstructure analysis on metal samples
- Record and document experimental outcomes and findings
- Maintain, calibrate and perform performance checks on laboratory equipment
- Analyse experimental results, identify patterns and contribute ideas for new research directions
- Help write research reports and publications based on findings
- Develop and refine laboratory protocols to ensure best practice and safety
Eligibility
- Degree-level qualification in engineering, materials science or related discipline
- Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and equipment quickly
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
- Willingness to expand technical knowledge and adapt to evolving research priorities
