Hampshire Scientific Service is a partnership between Hampshire County Council and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, applying forensic scientific expertise to protect public health and support forensic enforcement. This permanent Technical Officer role sits in the forensic team in Southsea, working predominantly within the Toxicology Unit, under an ISO 17025 quality system and the Forensic Codes of Practice — so accuracy, consistency and confidentiality are essential (your work may be used as evidence in court).
What you’ll do
- Receive, book in and case-manage forensic samples, checking submission paperwork (about 60% of the role)
- Prepare samples and run chromatographic analysis of biological matrices to inform the Coroner (about 40%)
- Handle administration for Coroner and Police cases, maintaining continuity
- Maintain and calibrate scientific equipment
- Carry out general lab maintenance, housekeeping and stock control
Eligibility
- Degree in a science subject (a chemistry background is especially welcome)
- 5 GCSEs at grades A–C including English and Maths
- Excellent attention to detail, good communication and teamwork
- UK residency of 3+ years (for vetting)
